Who is Orhan Gencebay?

Orhan Gencebay or real name Orhan Kencebay (born August 4, 1944, Samsun) Turkish composer, singer, poet, instrumentalist, arranger, music producer, music director and actor.

He is one of the creators and pioneers of the Turkish music style that spread in the 1960s, which is called Arabesque music, but he rejected this term on the grounds that it is "wrong and incomplete" and named it with concepts such as Free Turkish music, free Turkish music, free studies and Gencebay music. First years

He started music at the age of 6 by taking violin and mandolin lessons from the classical western musician Emin Tarakçı, a former opera singer who graduated from the Russian conservatory and originally a Crimean immigrant. He started taking baglama and Turkish folk music lessons at the age of 7. At the age of 10, he made his first composition work, Kara Kaslı Esmerdi, Who Knows Kimi Sevdi. At the age of 13, he started studying Turkish Art Music and drumming. During his secondary and high school years, he played the string drum in Samsun, Edirne and Istanbul music societies and the baglama in the THM societies. He was the founder of public houses in Samsun and Istanbul. He taught in the music classes he opened himself. Professional pass

He entered the TRT Ankara Radio exam in 1964 and won with high success. However, when the exam was canceled on the grounds of irregularity in the exam, he interrupted his music studies and went to Istanbul for military service. He continued to play the saxophone in the ceremonial band during his military service in Heybeliada as a sailor. In 1966, he entered the TRT Istanbul Radio exams and won with pride. That same year, Turkey made binding across the playing contest with Arif Sag and received degrees Cinuçen Tanrıkorur. He worked as a tying artist for 10 months on TRT Istanbul Radio. After leaving TRT, he played baglama with Arif Sağ between 1966-1968 with many artists such as Muzaffer Akgün, Yıldız Tezcan, Gülden Karaböcek, Ahmet Sezgin, Şükran Ay, Sabahat Akkiraz and Nuri Sesigüzel. During this period, he worked as the music director of Turkish films such as Kızılırmak Karakoyun, Ana and Kuyu. He frequently came together with artists such as Abdullah Nail Bayşu, İsmet Sıral, Burhan Tonguç, Erkin Koray, Ömer Faruk Tekbilek, Vedat Yıldırımbora, Özer Şenay and Neşet Ertaş in public houses in Istanbul and gave the first fruits of the musical synthesis that he will put forward himself in the future. He released folk songs such as Crying Yana Yana, Gönül bonds, Yıldız Hanover Rising, Where are you Leylâm. Rapid rise in career

After the folk songs, in 1968, he published his first free worksheet, The Spring Does Not Pass Without You - It Happens With You. After that, he continued to make serial records from Topkapı Plak and Istanbul Plak. It issued in 1969 and made famous throughout Turkey Give a consolation for the 45-tired eyes. Orhan Gencebay has starred in 35 (31 cinema, 4 television) films so far, and has been the music director of nearly 90 films. Orhan Gencebay, who has more than 1000 compositions, sang nearly 300 of them himself.

Although Orhan Gencebay's works were called arabesque when TRT auditing was established, Orhan Gencebay did not accept this assessment by saying “it is wrong and incomplete”.

Orhan Gencebay, who has a legal circulation of 67 million records and cassettes, is estimated to have a circulation of around 2 million with illegal productions, considering that the pirated production is 200 times more than the legal production. This is one of the few circulation figures in the world.

Divorced from Azize Gencebay, the former soloist of the White Butterflies group, Orhan Gencebay has been in an official relationship with Sevim Emre for more than 30 years. His son Altan Gencebay is still the producer of Kervan Plak.
