ESHOT General Directorate or ESHOT for short is the name of the bus company of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

It was established in 1943 as a business affiliated to Izmir Municipality. It stands for Electric Water Gas Bus and Trolleybus. Later, the Electricity -Gediz Edaş- and the Water -Issu- separated Airgas and Trolleybus sections were closed. Today only the Bus department is working. As of 27 March 2019, it operates as a General Directorate affiliated to Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which provides urban transportation with a fleet of 1525 vehicles within the boundaries of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

History

ESHOT General Directorate, Izmir Tramway and Electric Turkish Joint Stock Company, with the approval of the agreement regarding the purchase of the installation and the operation of this Organization, with the 27.07.1943th article of the Law No. 4483 dated 5, regarding the acquisition and transfer of the Izmir Waters Turkish Joint Stock Company. Pursuant to the provisions of Article 05.06.1947 of Law No. 4583, dated 6, it was established as a business affiliated to Izmir Municipality to be managed as an Administration with Additional Budget until a general Business Law was issued for such organizations. In 1945, the company merged with the Tramway and Electricity Enterprise joined the Gas Gas Plant in the same year.

The Regulation on the Organization and Duties of İzmir Electricity, Water, Gas Gas, Bus and Trolleybus, prepared on the basis of Articles 4483 and 4583 of the Transfer Laws No 5 and 6, entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette dated 1322 June 11 and numbered 1957. it still functions in accordance with the principles of this Regulation.

With the decision of the National Security Council number 11 published in the Official Gazette dated 1980 December 17187 and numbered 34, Bornova, Karşıyaka, Altındağ, Balçova, Buca, Büyükçiğli, Gaziemir, Güzelbahçe, Gültepe, Işıkkent, Narlıdere, Pınarbaşı and Yeşilyurt Municipalities and Balatçık , Doğançay, Doğanlar, Örnekköy, Uzundere Villages were subjected to İzmir Municipality with all their rights and obligations, and the Electricity, Water and Bus Operations of these Municipalities and Villages were also connected to ESHOT.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality was established with the Decree Law No. 1984 published in the Official Gazette No. 18350 dated 195 March 27 and the Law No. 1984 dated June 3030, XNUMX and served as Metropolitan Municipality, Merkez District Municipality (Konak), Karşıyaka District Municipality, Bornova District Municipality. and the General Directorate of ESHOT remained as an enterprise with an annexed budget attached to the Metropolitan Municipality.

ANNEX-25, added to the Law No. 1987 by Law No. 19411, with the Decision of the Council of Ministers numbered 87/11594 published in the Official Gazette No. 2560 dated March 3305, 4. According to the article, General Directorate of İZSU was established. Pursuant to this Law, water-related units and personnel affiliated with the ESHOT General Directorate were transferred to the IZSU General Directorate on 1 July 1987. Trolleybuses, which carry passenger transportation with buses, were excluded from service in July 1992 due to the fact that their spare parts could not be supplied due to the old technology, negatively affect the traffic flow, increase operating costs and complete their economic life.

The “Air Gas Company”, which was founded by the British under the name of “Ottoman City Gas” in 1876 for the enlightenment of İzmir, was transferred to the Municipality in 1936, the Municipality established a “City Gas Directorate” and commissioned the business. It was affiliated with the "General Directorate of Electric Tramway Operations", which was established in 1945 by Law No. 4483. Illumination of the city After starting to provide electricity, gas lanterns were dismantled and fuel production was started for the houses. Due to its old technology, permanent damage, environmental pollution and the completion of its economic life, it was closed with the decision of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council dated 1 September 1994 and numbered 05.195.
