Samsung Begins Mass Production of LPDDR5 DRAM

South Korean technology giant Samsung shared a new news today. In the news published, the company announced that the mass production of 10 GB LPDDR1 DRAM based on EUV (16z) produced with the industry's first 5 nm technology has started. Production started at the company's production facility in Pyeongtaek, South Korea.

The 16 GB LPDDR5 DRAM, which Samsung started mass production, will be produced using the company's third generation 10 nm technology. 10 nm technology currently enables the company to achieve the most performance and maximum capacity. Let's take a closer look at Samsung's new hardware:

Samsung's new 16GB LPDDR5 DRAM

Samsung's 16 GB LPDDR5 DRAM, which started mass production, became the first memory to be mass-produced using EUV technology. Thanks to EUV technology, Samsung's new memory has enabled portable DRAM to reach the highest speed and more capacity.

LPDDR5 runs at 6.400 megabits per second, about 5.500% faster than the 12 GB LPDDR5 that operates at 16 megabits per second, which we see on today's flagships. According to the data provided by Samsung, a device with this DRAM can transfer 51,2 GB of data in under a second.

LPDDR1s have become 5% thinner thanks to the 30z technology that is now in commercial use. In this way, 5G communication and multi-camera setups in smart cameras became more functional; foldable phones have a more compact design. Samsung's new DRAM requires 16 chips alone to create a 8GB package.

Samsung wants to further strengthen its position in the flagship smartphone market over the next year. Produced with the new 1z technology developed by the company, 16 GB LPDDR5 DRAM will be used by many smartphone manufacturers around the world. The new portable equipment will also appear in the automotive sector.
