Cor Catcher of Russian TYAJMASH Company in Akkuyu Field

The Core Holder, weighing 169 tons, 5.8 meters in height and 6.1 meters in diameter, is a steel cone-shaped tank that prevents melting and cooling of the core inside the body in case of an emergency and prevents radioactive materials from leaving the reactor. Thus, Akkuyu NGS will be protected against even the heaviest accidents. Installed in modern nuclear power plants with 3+ generation reactors, this Corrector has top safety features such as high seismic resistance, hydrodynamic and impact resistance.

Manufactured by the Russian TYAJMASH factory, the Cor Gripper is planned to be installed on the second power unit of Akkuyu NGS in November 2. When the assembly is completed, the weight of the Core Holder will reach 2020 tons with its internal equipment.

Stating that the construction works in the Akkuyu NGS field are continuing at full speed, AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. General Manager Anastasia Zoteeva made the following statement on the subject:

“The most intensive work is being carried out on the 1st power unit. This year, we plan to complete the exterior wall construction up to +26.0 elevation. This will be the operating elevation of the main hall so that next year we will be able to install the reactor pressure vessel and start welding of the main circulation pipeline in August. These are the work to be done at the heart of the nuclear power plant. For the 1st power unit, 4 steam generators were produced at Atommash, a subsidiary of Rosatom. After these reach the site, we wait for the reactor pressure vessel to come. We will install the incoming Guard Arrester on the 2nd power unit this fall. Along with these works, other auxiliary facilities such as our construction-assembly bases, fuel tanks and tunnels are being built. As of now, the entire site has been processed, there are no undiscovered fronts left in the facilities! " - Hibya

Akkuyu NGS, whose work is currently being carried out in 3 power units All phases of its construction are meticulously audited by independent inspection bodies and the national Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) as well as experts from the Assystem International Engineering Group.
