The Ataköy İkitelli Metro will be put into service in 2022

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) President Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the “TBM Excavation Completion Ceremony” of Ataköy-İkitelli Metro, which will be integrated with 4 different metro and metrobus lines operating in the city.

In the ceremony held at the construction site of the line in Halkalı, to İmamoğlu; Küçükçekmece Municipality Mayor Kemal Çebi and Bakırköy Mayor Bülent Kerimoğlu accompanied them. İmamoğlu emphasized that since the day they took office, they focused on the resumption of metro lines that were stopped by the previous administration. Reminding that they have made 8 lines operational so far, İmamoğlu shared financial and technical information on the said construction sites. Stating that he is excited about every metro project, İmamoğlu said, “Because the most precious value of a modern city regarding transportation is the metro. Besides, it is indispensable for a city of 16 million. In this sense, we care very much, ”he said.


İmamoğlu also shared the following information about the İkitelli-Ataköy Metro Line: “In March 2019, construction works were stopped in some problematic areas due to ground problems. Technical problems have been resolved, and construction work has been accelerated since July. A total of 4 TBMs worked throughout the line. The excavation of the 2 TBM under dense residential units and the main line tunnel between Çobançeşme-Kuyumcukent Station - Halkalı Caddesi Station has also been completed. The construction of the 13,5 km long line with 11 stations has been completed by 61 percent as of today. We want to make partial openings so that Istanbul can use the subways at certain points as soon as possible. After electromechanical works on this line, we aim to open the line between İkitelli Industrial Station and Bahariye Station in the first quarter of 2021. In the first quarter of 2022, the entire project will be commissioned and 4 different rail systems currently operating in the İkitelli region will be connected with Marmaray. When the entire subway is opened, it will carry 72 thousand passengers per hour in both directions. With the line passing through Bakırköy, Bahçelievler, Küçükçekmece, Bağcılar and Başakşehir districts, the distance between İkitelli and Ataköy will be reduced to 23 minutes. With all these investments, we will increase the share of the rail system in public transportation from 20,5 percent to 30 percent in the first place. This is very precious for Istanbul. "


Underlining that they detected very serious financing problems and technical problems in rail systems when they took office, İmamoğlu said, “When the search for foreign loans for our subways yields positive results, we speed up the works as much as possible. Our efforts in rail systems are not limited to these 8 lines. We have other rail system needs in the future of Istanbul. For example, Beylikdüzü and Esenyurt are very neglected. We attach great importance to this issue. For; Nearly 2,5 million people in that area do not currently have metro connections. One in six of Istanbul lives in this region; unfortunately, a step has not been taken in rail systems. İncirli-Beylikdüzü Metro project has been on the shelf for years. The part I witnessed is 6 years. Similarly, we have a line from Mahmutbey, which concerns the west of Istanbul, to Esenyurt; We are working to combine this place with the Beylikdüzü subway. It was also tendered; but unfortunately he has no project. It is not understandable, We are working on it now. Our efforts are continuing to put all these lines into operation in the fastest way with the most accurate financing model. Unfortunately, all these lines come into operation, it takes 1-17 years. Tunnels, underground stations need these times. ”

After the speech of İmamoğlu, who thanked every person, institution and organization who contributed to the construction of the line, the TBMs numbered S1028 and S1029 carried out the last drilling operations.
