Nostalgic Tram Comes to Kordon

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is launching a nostalgic tram project that will serve between Alsancak Port viaducts and Cumhuriyet Square. The nostalgic tram, inspired by the electric trams that have been used since 1928 in İzmir, will have rubber wheels and will work with electricity in order not to spoil the texture of Kordon.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is starting the infrastructure works to implement the nostalgic tram project, which came to the fore within the scope of the city rail system network, in Kordon. In order to avoid damaging the texture of Kordon and to protect the green area there, for the nostalgic trams with batteries, which are designed with rubber wheels, the dirt road on the beach was evaluated on the 660-meter route between Cumhuriyet Square and the Alsancak Port viaducts. The trams will start serving on September 98, when İzmir's Kurtuluş enthusiasm will be experienced for the 9th time.

Infrastructure work begins

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Science Affairs Department will complete the infrastructure works on the tram route until August 30. Within the scope of the works, the existing dirt road will be arranged in accordance with the passage of the tram. In addition, an area will be created in the area where the Alsancak Port viaducts are located, so that tram wagons with batteries can be parked, maintained and cleaned, and these wagons can be charged.

Domestic company makes the production of trams

Nostalgic trams, which will be operated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Izmir Metro Inc., were designed by inspiring electric trains operating between Guzelyali and Konak between 1928 and 1954. The first of 3 nostalgic tram wagons, the production of which started in a local company that produces nostalgic electric trams to different parts of the world in Denizli, will be put into service first.

Will make a mutual expedition

Two nostalgic trams with a seating capacity of 28 people, consisting of a single wagon, will have mutual voyages. There will be a driver's cabin in both directions of the wagon, it will not need space for turning. Passengers will be able to get on and off the tram from 4 stops: Cumhuriyet Square, Gündoğdu Square, Alsancak Pier and Alsancak Port. The 3rd tram car will be kept in reserve. The color of the nostalgic tram of İzmir was determined as green based on the color of the trams serving the city in the 1900s.
