Who is Cahit Zarifoğlu?

Abdurrahman Cahit Zarifoglu (July 1, 1940, Ankara - June 7, 1987, Istanbul) Turkish poet and writer. He spent his childhood in Siverek, Maraş and Ankara. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Letters, German Language and Literature. His poems were published in the journal Diriliş. She married Berat Hanım, daughter of Seyyid Kasım Arvasi, from Arvasi, and she had three daughters and a son from this marriage. Necip Fazıl Kısakürek was his witness at his wedding. He started his military service in Sarıkamış in 1973, participated in the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974 and completed his military service in 1975. He took part in the establishment of Mavera magazine in 1976. He passed away on June 7, 1987 in Istanbul from lung cancer. His grave is in Kuplüce Cemetery in Üsküdar Beylerbeyi and is next to his father-in-law Kasım Arvasi. It is commemorated at the beginning of his grave by his lovers every year on June 7.

There is also Cahit Zarifoğlu Information House in Esenler district of Istanbul. In addition, an imam hatip high school, which was opened in 2014 in the Ataşehir district of Istanbul province, was named. Since 2003, the Cahit Zarifoğlu award has been given by the Poetry and Literature Initiative every year close to the anniversary of his death. With the name of Cahit Zarifoğlu, there is a primary school in Yazır neighborhood of Selçuklu district of Konya province and an Anatolian high school in Esentepe district of Beyşehir district.
