Borusan Otomotiv is the Turkey distributor of BMW, was the latest two models of the new BMW Series and the BMW 1 8 Series Gran Coupé owner of the Golden Steering Wheel award. This year's New BMW 1976 Series and BMW 1 Series were marked by the Golden Steering Wheel Awards, which have been held since 8 by the German auto magazine Auto Bild and the market newspaper Bild am Sonntag. The new BMW 1 Series won the 2019 Gold Steering Wheel award in the compact segment category, while the BMW 8 Series won the 'Most Beautiful Car of the Year' award.
The jury members who took part in the Golden Steering Awards had the chance to discover the brand's new perspective on the sporty driving character of the brand by testing the New BMW 1 Series, the first model to use BMW's advanced front-wheel drive architecture. The third generation of the premium compact model continues its leadership in its class with its agility and dynamism. Here, as well as the seamless interaction of state-of-the-art chassis systems and innovative technologies, the integration of all key driving dynamics components and control systems plays an important role.
After the BMW i models, ARB (wheel slip restriction) technology, which debuted on cars with an internal combustion engine, also improves traction on the cornering or wet road, allowing for more precise and faster control of the slip. The new BMW 1 Series also achieved the highest rating with increased interior and sophisticated driving assistance systems. As standard, Cruise Control with Brake Function, Lane Departure Warning, Collision with Brake Function and Pedestrian Warning maximize the safety features of the new BMW 1 Series.
Best Cars: BMW 8 Series
Another model that brought BMW the second Golden Steering Award this year was the BMW 8 Series. The irresistible visual appeal and new design language enabled BMW to be selected as the 'best car of the year' in this year's competition. Assertive surfaces and sharp lines that provide an authentic showcase for the car's rich dynamic character dominate the exterior design of the new luxury sports car. With its taut silhouette, thin window graphic, elegantly flowing roofline and distinctive “double bubble” styling, the BMW 8 Series Coupé combines sportiness and luxury in its most attractive form. In addition, the BMW 8 Series Convertible with canvas ceiling brings the driver and passenger to another dimension with its elegance and privilege. Added to the BMW 8 Series family, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé also brings the sports performance experience to four full-length seats with its rear doors and increased rear knee distance.
The Golden Steering Awards, held annually since 1976, are considered among the most prestigious automobile industry awards in Europe. In the contest where 58 new models were nominated in seven categories this year, the three most popular models in each category were selected with a reader survey. These cars were then evaluated by 15 highly qualified referees, including legendary racing pilots Walter Röhrl and Hans-Joachim Stuck. All of the finalists were closely examined by experts.
