Hyundai has made a name for itself with the new technologies and ambitious products it has brought to the automotive world. The joint venture ensures the development of SAE level 4 and 5 autonomous technologies zamIt will also contribute to the spread of this system. The first models of the joint venture will be launched in 2020 and will begin testing fully driverless systems. After the test phase, a production-ready autonomous driving platform will be available for robotics, fleet operators and other automotive manufacturers in 2022.
Under the agreement, both companies will meet at the common denominator and will have an equal share of 50. The total investment value of 4 will reach $ billion, while workers close to 700 will be employed. Hyundai's subsidiaries, the Hyundai Motor Group and Hyundai Mobis, will also invest 1.6 billion dollars in the project's transition to mass production. Aptiv will develop the program software, system coding and other IT processes necessary for autonomous driving, while Hyundai will make vehicles ready for mass production. The operations of the joint venture will be established by establishing a large technology center in Korea.
The new platforms will be used by robotaxi and fleet companies that will be launched at 2022.
The two companies that invest 4 billion dollars in the project will continue to work with the 50 partnership.
